HKCCMA - Chairman's Christmas Message 2013

Dear Members,

The current cold spells are timely reminders to us that we are again approaching the end of another year! 2013 is indeed eventful, both domestically and internationally.

As mentioned in my last Christmas message that there was hope that the global economy was consolidating and might slowly walk out of the shadows. Well this is certainly true for the US as elsewhere the economies are still a mixed bag. The challenge for 2014 for APAC will come from China not only because they are the locomotive of the region’s economy, but more on the political side of the equation. It will be interesting to see how China balances their economic and political priorities as they try to navigate the relationships with their neighbors without interrupting trade. Domestically China needs to transform its economy in line with their political agenda which sometimes might seem rather mutually exclusive.

The dominating topic of the global economy in 2014 will be the easing of the Quantitative Measures in the US. To some extent, the stock markets are reflecting the effects of such an action but it is still early days to determine the actual outcome. Common consensus has it that, the easing will put at least the US economy back in normal operations. However, the short-term economic adjustments will create volatilities in various markets. To this end, creditors would need to stay vigilant on their portfolio and risks.

I would like to draw your attention to our coming annual general meeting on 24 January 2014. The event will take place at 6pm at Club Lusitano in Central. This is a good opportunity for us to catch up and share our views on2013!

With Christmas fast approaching, on behalf of the Hong Kong Credit and Collection Management Association, I wish you and your love ones a very merry Christmas and a healthy and successful 2014!

Your sincerely,

Hong Kong Credit and Collection Management Association.
