HKCCMA "Credit Practitioner of the Year"
2007-2008
Award Winner : Ms. Margaret R. Tse
Chairman of the Association, Mr Benedict Wong, Honorable Judges, Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Good Evening. I feel absolutely blessed to be receiving this award, Premiere Global Services – HKCCMA Credit Practitioner of the Year 2007-2008. But I didn't do it by myself. I had the help and support of so many people including many of you here tonight.
Many thanks are owed to the Honorable Judges who had dedicated their valuable time in the assessment.
And my sincere thanks also go to Chairman Mr Benedict Wong, Vice Chairman Mr Bobby Rozario and Executive Committee Board of the Association who have been devoted in HKCCMA, the only association in HK for Credit and Collection Industry.
Betty Huen, who nominated me for this award, her support is truly gratifying. Without you Betty, I will not here tonight.
I need to especially thank my managers, Konrad Chan and Nick Samurkas, for their support, encouragement and flexibility given to me during the past challenging years. And thank you to my team members and the colleagues I work with at Global Payments who have been always so helpful . And last, though certainly not least, I thank my husband Sammy who has been behind me every step of the way.
I got this honorable award in this year 2008, in the midst of Global Financial Crisis. It gives a very special meaning to this award. It has been 10 years since Asian Financial Crisis and this was also the year I joined Credit and Collection profession. Now we are facing another extremely tough economic downturn and the words which I heard most related to this crisis is Credit, like underlying cause as some of the analysts and critics said is ‘Easy Credit' and the result we see now is ‘Credit Crunch'. It reminded me what I always believe Credit is like, which is ‘Two Edged Sword'. It can do us good and can also do us harm. It is a very powerful ‘weapon'. If we use it wisely it can help our business and our customers' business. However if we use it negligently, it will kill our customers' business and our own business . And it can be as disastrous as the crisis we see today. Being a custodian of this powerful ‘weapon', I always remind myself I have to use it intelligently.
During the past 10 years, I am glad I can witness these two Crises while being a Credit and Collection Practitioner because being a fireman cannot be in fire scene, what a miss! In the past, we experienced major developments of Credit and Collection Industry. In Wikipedia, this is what I found about Credit and Collection Management ,
‘Credit Management is a branch of accountancy, and is a function that falls under the label of "Credit and Collection' or 'Accounts Receivable' as a department in many companies and institutions. Credit Management has evolved now from being a pure accounting function into a front-end customer facing function. '
This is best described what happened as evolution of this Industry. With increase awareness of Credit and Collection Management or I say ‘Risk Management' as collective term, it has become more important than ever.
Months ago, I had attended a seminar overseas and there was a famous speaker who forecast Risk Management is one of the professions which can guarantee our next generation job security. I was glad to hear that not because I don't need to worry about my job security or I know how to plan for my two daughters' career path. The more important message here is people's ever increasing awareness and more demanding needs for Risk Management is beyond doubt in the coming century or so. As a ‘Demand Driven' disciple, I believe with increased demand on Risk Management and with continuous supports and contributions from enthusiastic and dedicated practitioners in this Industry, I can see this Industry is heading to a more encouraging and higher standard of professionalism.
Thank you again for the pleasure of speaking to you this evening and for the honor and privilege of this award.
