Award Winner's Speech

Chairman of the Association Mr Benedict Wong, Honorable Judges and distinguished guests, Ladies & Gentlemen,

Good evening. I am deeply honored to receive this award, TOTAL CREDIT-HKCCMA "Credit Practitioner of the Year" 2006-2007. Some quick thank you's:

To the Honorable Judges. Thank you for your time & work in reviewing & accessing my nomination and approving my award. I believe it's not an easy task considering your tight business & academic schedule. Thanks so much.

Thank you Mr Bobby Rozario, Chairman of Annual Award Sub-Committee for arranging this activity. I have known you for over 10 years and it's amazing to get the award, the highest honor in credit & collection industry from the activity that you are the chair.

Thank you Mr Neil Alan Wood, Chairman & Mr Benedict Wong, Managing Director & CEO, of Total Credit Management Services, being the sole sponsor of the award this year. You are supporting this financially & by heart.

And my boss, Mr Robert Wong & Ms Daisy Lui, who also come tonight & share this honor with me. You both are intelligent & sensitive leaders who I'm proud to have served under.

I am also grateful to Ms Maco Yeung for nominating me for this award. Without your nomination I'll not be here tonight.

Last but not least, I would like to thank Mr Andrew Kwok and Ms Betty Huen. You two have shown extensive support especially for the past few years. You are just so great.

The value and significance I give to the Award is amplified both because it carries HKCCMA's name, representing professionalism & integrity, which are two major elements that credit practitioners work for.

Credit management is my career since I graduated, 15 years ago. I have the fortune working in credit & collection industry, which is an area having such extensive development in Hong Kong last 2 decades, in terms of professionalism & integrity.

I observe the establishment of business and consumer credit databases in early 80's.

I observe more & more credit circles being formed among different industries.

I observe the establishment of the Hong Kong Credit & Collection Management Association in 1999, the first and only professional association for the credit and collection practitioners in Hong Kong .

I observe the introduction of the first & only credit & collection professional designation by examination, to recognize professionals who have practiced in, and have knowledge of, the laws and practices in Hong Kong and Mainland China in 2005.

I have the fortune to observe these milestones being recorded and be involved part of them. This is however not by luck that something is taking place by itself. These milestones are here only because of support, & continuing support, of practitioners including us. We are making the history. But there are more to do. For example:

I foresee thousand & thousand of credit practitioners going through professional training & professional certification.

I foresee the enhancement of transpancy of business & consumer credit history to enable credit providers providing a better assessment.

I foresee the Code of Ethics becomes an industry basic standard.

As a practitioner, I will urge your support, and support to the Association, to make these taking place. This is what the true value & meaning of the word “credit”. And the two major elements of “professionalism” & “integrity” stand for.

Finally, I would want to say again that I am so honored to be named the Credit Practitioner of the Year for 2006-7. This is a highlight of my career and I will definitely endeavor to give my personal support to the credit & collection industry to further enhance this profession. Thank you.
